Instruments
- BAT (Burst Alert Telescope) will locate the source of a gamma ray burst to within 4 arc minutes and transmit the data to the ground within 15 seconds. This data used to autonomously to reposition Swift.
- XRT (X-ray Telescope)
- UVOT (Ulta violet and OPtical Telescope)
The XRT and UVOT will produce finder charts to arc-second accuracy to enable ground based observatories to follow up the observations.
BAT will also detect X-rays in thge range 10 to 150 KeV in order to observe more than 400 new supermassive black holes.
