The Local Cluster of Nearest Stars
The Sun is just one of a cluster of stars. Some of these stars have planetary systems.
The Local Cluster
- The Sun an ordinary star, but it is of course the most important star in the sky for us. Please note that contrary to a lot of modern writers, the Sun should have a capital 'S' because it is a place like London, New York, Rome, Mars, the Moon, Sirius.
- Alpha Centauri There are three components, Proxima (the nearest star), Rigil and Kentaurus (a double star)
- Sirius The Dog Star, in the constellation of Canis Major (The Great Dog) is the brightest star in the sky and outshines many of the planets (except Venus and Jupiter).
- Barnard's Star
- Wolf 359
